Vapreotide is a potent octapeptide analog of somatostatin with selectivity for the somatostatin receptor subtypes SSTR-2 and SSTR-5. It is under investigation in the management of various disorders, including esophageal variceal bleeding, gastrointestinal and pancreatic fistulas, acromegaly, carcinoid tumors, and for the prevention of postoperative complications following pancreatic surgery.
