Kaliotoxin, originally purified from the venom of the scorpion Androctonus mauretanicus mauretanicus, is a 38amino acid peptide showing 44% sequence homology with charybdotoxin and iberiotoxin. It acts as a specific, voltage-independent inhibitor of high conductance Ca2+ activated K+ channels present in mollusc and rabbit nerve cells.
