This amyloid fragment has been shown to have a cytotoxic effect on cultured neurons from the rat hippocampus in serum-free medium. In neutral buffer solution this peptide formed aggregates and typical amyloid fibrils resembling those of the β-amyloid protein in senile plaque cores.
